Persona.

Kaiwen is a very passionate and determined person. Much of this is driven by the grief that he holds from his past, losing the woman that he loved and growing up an orphan. Many of the actions he commits are out of a drive to save himself, but more importantly, other people, from experiencing the same loss he has experienced over and over again. He's very kind-hearted, will take care of and save others when possible, and tries to put burdens on his own shoulders instead of allowing others to have to experience that weight. He's a bit silly sometimes, and generally relatively nonchalant in matters unrelated to his partner, because he is obsessed with him. Total wifeguy.

He is also very tired, with a tendency to work a lot. He willingly overworks himself, partially out of an enjoyment for medicine, but primarily because he wants to save as many people as he can, especially those closest to him, the people that he loves the most. He would offer his own life if it meant a way for him to save someone else... Despite being always tired, though, this does not stop his whimsy... it just means that he falls asleep everywhere, instead. Naturally.

etymology - kaiwen is the cn name for kevin kaslana.

Backstory.

Kaiwen was born to a planet plagued by a disease known as the Benghuai Sickness, and his life as he grew up was heavily influenced by this fact. This disease orphaned him at a young age, leaving him to his own devices until he found the company of a girl a few years older than him, named MEI, who was in a similar situation to his own. Together, they grew up as childhood sweethearts, with Kaiwen following MEI in her determination to find a way to cure, or perhaps entirely eradicate the Benghuai Sickness, despite their fairly young ages. He was already no stranger to the idea of those disease-ridden corpses, and did not hesitate when the opportunity arose to examine those alive and dead alike in his desire to aid MEI in finding a cure.

Unfortunately, this was not to last. Despite their sweet romance, their plans to get married as soon as possible and become doctors together, when Kaiwen was around fifteen, MEI contracted the Benghuai Sickness and quickly perished. Devastated, Kaiwen buries her body himself, despite the wishes he knew MEI would have in favor of donating her body to science and to finding a cure.

It's shortly after this that doctors from the Xianzhou Alliance come to his homeworld. It is this occurrence that brings him to meet doctor RuiZe, who takes him under his wing as a student in medicine. Later on, Kaiwen finds himself on the planet Zhurong-IV, as the personal doctor of the guardian Su, despite his young age, which marks the beginning of their curious relationship. Starting out as an annoyed doctor and unruly patient, eventually Kaiwen finds himself developing feelings for Su, much to his dismay. Thus, he confides in the friends he's found in his time on Zhurong-IV, another guardian named Mei and the emperor himself, the former of which is rather unsympathetic in the way only a best friend plagued by their friend's questionable situationship could be, and the latter being entirely too nosy about the whole thing.

That isn't to say that his feelings were forever unrequited, though. The relationship between Kaiwen and Su truly is curious in that it is a strange situationship though Kaiwen falls first, Su is also not immune to his feelings for Kaiwen, which are acted upon, though not in any official capacity. While Kaiwen bares his feelings to Su, and Su accepts them, he doesn't necessarily reciprocate wholly, despite his own feelings. Their relationship becomes sexual, one-sidedly romantic, punctuated by Kaiwen's desperation to find a way to keep Su from dying and Su's refusal to acknowledge that he feels the same, if only in an attempt to spare Kaiwen's heart when he inevitably dies.

Of course, this only serves to frustrate Kaiwen, who does not care at all about that. If - when - the inevitable were to happen, he would much rather have had Su and then lose him, than to not have had him at all.

Some time during all of this as well, Su acquires a baby from... somewhere. A young orphaned tiger who is thus raised by Su, and by extension, Kaiwen, though he doesn't contribute as much, if only because of how much work he gives himself, overworked entirely by his own volition. This habitual overworking is entirely out of his desire to find a cure for Su's sickness, though he is ultimately not fast enough. Su dies, and though Kaiwen is devastated, wracked with grief once more, he has a secondary plan - albeit, one he hadn't wanted to go through with.

He creates a new body using the powers of the Abundance, though it's imperfect in his haste. Then, he ventures into the underworld to find Su, to bring him back to life. He ultimately makes a deal, sacrificing his own whole life to tie the both of their lifespans together, so that Su could live. As long as one of them was alive, so would the other remain so, though the inverse was true as well, in that if one of them died, the other would as well. He guides the both of them out of the underworld... where Kaiwen is almost immediately captured and executed for the undoubtable crime he'd committed in the act of bringing Su back to life. Still, through some intervention, he comes out of this unscathed, free to continue being Su's doctor - and his future husband.

( Rumors say the emperor himself is waiting most impatiently for their wedding... )
